Walking with Purpose: USKO’s August Steps Challenge

15 September 2025
In August, USKO employees across offices and departments took part in the company’s annual Steps Challenge, an initiative that placed movement, health, and community at the center of daily routines. The challenge was simple in form yet impactful: track one’s steps, remain active, and encourage colleagues to do the same.
The Steps Challenge reminded participants that physical activity does not always require extraordinary effort. Many chose to walk during lunch breaks, take the longer route to meetings, or meet after work for group walks. These small decisions added up to measurable improvements in wellbeing, while also reinforcing the value of consistency over intensity.
The competitive element of the challenge never overshadowed its purpose. Employees exchanged encouragement in internal chats, compared progress, and shared photographs from their walking routes.
What emerged was not only higher step counts but also a stronger sense of collegial support. The initiative underscored that health is more readily sustained when pursued collectively.
For USKO, the Steps Challenge reflects a workplace culture where professional achievement is balanced with personal health, and where collaboration extends beyond business operations into the realm of everyday life. In an industry often defined by urgency and deadlines, this month-long activity provided a reminder that long-term resilience begins with the well-being of people.
While winners were recognized for their efforts, the true outcome of the August challenge was broader: a healthier, more connected team. As the challenge winner Ela Karpenko observed, “We move freight every day. This month we remembered to move ourselves, too.”
