Speak English or Park It: USKO Supports Tough New Safety Rules

On April 28, 2025, President Donald Trump signed a bold executive order mandating all commercial truck drivers operating within the United States to demonstrate clear English-language proficiency. This measure addresses critical safety issues stemming from communication barriers on American highways.
Under this directive, the Department of Transportation (DOT) will strictly enforce existing English-language requirements. Commercial drivers now have just 90 days to pass mandatory language proficiency tests. Those unable to meet the standards after a short grace period risk immediate suspension of their commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs).
This federal mandate is a decisive step to ensure every trucker can clearly read road signs, understand emergency instructions, and effectively communicate with law enforcement.
